This concept of people joining together for the purpose of working to share in the process of buying foods in a non-traditional way has been around for a long time. By becoming a member or and working at a cooperative, people help the community in offering an alternative to traditional supermarkets. Their time and energy often translates into lower food costs and a sense of belonging to a community organization.
