Humanics (hyoo-man iks) pl. n.
1. Education of the whole person - spirit, mind, and body -- for leadership in service to others. 2. Guiding philosophy of Springfield College.

HUMANICS IN ACTION DAY was co-initiated and developed by the student leaders of New Student Orientation and 1998-1999 Distinguished Professor of Humanics Dr. Peter Polito.  Together they developed this event to unite the people of Springfield College and its surrounding neighborhoods to work on community service projects.  The first Humanics in Action Day occurred on September 10, 1998, and has become an annual event in celebration of community and civic engagement.

INTERNATIONAL HUMANICS DAY was conceived by Dr. Richard Davila, the 2006-2007 Distinguished Springfield Professor of Humanics.  Dr Davila's project, entitled "The Multicultural, Multi-ethnic, and International Aspects of the Humanics Philosophy," establishes the importance of the diverse aspects of Humanics in an age when diversity has never been more abundant.  Events for this day were planned to celebrate this diversity.

The Humanics in Action logo, developed in 1998, depicts humankind reaching out to help one another while subtly embedding an H for Humanics.  The International Humanics in Action logo, at left, is a variation of that logo, incorporating the image of the world to convey the message that Springfield College's Humanics Philosophy knows no borders.
